Did my wallet get hacked?

If you notice suspicious activity in your wallet, please be cautious. While there are many ways to check if your wallet was indeed compromised, here are a few things to consider:

  1. Have you noticed a strange transaction out of your wallet without your knowledge?
  2. Did you recently click on a suspicious link (appeared too good to be true) such as airdrop claims, or token migration alerts shown in your wallet?
  3. Did you accidentally connect your wallet to a suspicious website and sign a transaction?

If any of the above scenarios are true, your wallet may indeed have been compromised.

What can I do if my wallet is hacked?

Sadly, there’s not much that can be done for compromised wallets in most cases as the perpetrator may have acted quickly to restrict further access to the wallet. However, in some cases, the original owners of the wallet may still be able to recover their funds.

  1. If you still have access to the compromised wallet and funds in it, it is highly recommended to move all funds into a new wallet.
  2. If you are unable to make transactions using the wallet, as some hacks may involve scripts that make it impossible for any other person apart from the bad actor to interact with the wallet, it means you would have to forgo the wallet and assets in the compromised wallet.
  3. If there are significant amounts of assets in the wallet, consider reporting to law enforcement agencies who may alert centralized exchanges to be on the lookout for transactions from the compromised wallet.
